Our Story

Mission Statement: Equipping God’s people in holistic ministry to disciple the nations

Equip International exists to Equip God's people in holistic ministry to disciple the nations. By showing how God is reconciling all things to Himself (both physical and spiritual), we have an open door to share the good news of Jesus and show what difference it makes to follow Him.

We do this by:

  • Training missionaries in agriculture, appropriate technology, medical procedures, and community health evangelism.
  • Sending missionaries ready to make an impact for God's Kingdom in practical, life changing ways.
  • Partnering with mission agencies and churches to help prepare them for work in the field.

Partnering

We believe ministry is done best when we all work together. That’s why we partner with other missions agencies, churches, and missionaries to help them better serve those in their ministry contexts.

Training

At Equip, we believe faith and work go hand-in-hand. Training missionaries in agriculture, appropriate technology, medical procedures, and community health evangelism opens the door for community transformation through Christ. We help missionaries live out their faith in Christ in tangible, relevant ways by serving their communities.

Sending

Equip sends adventurous individuals living out their unique call to share the Good News of Jesus Christ around the globe. We seek out and send missionaries ready to make an impact for God's Kingdom in practical, life changing ways. Explore the varied work of our missionaries all over the world.

Our Values, Our Culture

Our History

While ministering in his native Scotland, Barrie Flitcroft met Tillie, a public health nurse and midwife. The two married and began serving as missionaries in Vietnam, South Korea, and the Philippines.

After years of serving in the mission field, the Flitcrofts witnessed first-hand the brokenness and suffering experienced by those they sought to serve. From medical attention to clean water to sustainable farming practices, Barrie and Tillie saw that by providing practical help through appropriate technology and basic medicine, they could love and serve those they worked with in a much greater capacity, sharing the love of Christ in tangible ways. Thus the Flitcrofts founded Equip International in 1996, and an Appropriate Technology Center was established in Marion, North Carolina.

A year after Equip’s launch, the organization expanded to British Columbia, Canada, joining together Equip International and the Equipping Christian Workers Society. Click here to learn more about Equip Canada.

Since our founding, we have trained over 5,100 missionaries in the areas of health care, food, water, shelter, and community development, helping them develop hands-on, relevant skills to meet the physical as well as the spiritual needs of the communities they serve.

From the beginning, Equip has also sent adventurous individuals and families into the field, people who are living out their unique call in sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ around the globe. Today, we support dozens of missionaries all over the world. Click here to see where they serve.

Equip International is dedicated to advancing the Great Commission through partnering, training, and sending missionaries. Let us help you get equipped to practically share the love of Christ both locally and globally.
